Statistics: The education sector and student dropout rates in the Syrian opposition areas 



The education sector in the Syrian opposition areas is considered one of the sectors most in need of emergency response and stable support. Although the response to providing food baskets, shelter, medical treatment and healthcare services is receiving more attention and support from organizations and donors, the worsening situation that the education sector is suffering from has become exacerbated and poses a real danger and threat to the security, economic and societal future of the region

On this matter, Jusoor Center for Studies publishes a map contains statistics that shows the reality of the education sector and student dropout rates in the Syrian opposition areas. It also shows the number of schools operating in the opposition areas in the north and northwest of Syria, the number of male and female teachers, and the number of students attending schools and the dropout students. The regions have been colored according to the percentage of male and female students who have dropped out of the total number of students, which is an average of 58% for the entire opposition areas, and ranges from 42% to 64% from one region to another, according to population density and the large number of camps and small population gatherings.

Apart from the differences in the rates of dropouts between the regions, in general they refer to a high percentage of male and female dropouts. The attached analytical article addresses the most prominent reasons for the dropout, including the non-implementation of compulsory education, allowing child labor, and so on.

The education sector in opposition areas needs adequate and stable support; that reduces the high dropout rate through completing the restoration of damaged and destroyed schools, building new schools, providing them with all educational requirements, fully covering the salaries of male and female teachers, and paying attention to vocational and after-school education.

The attached maps attempt to provide actors, influencers, and stakeholders with accurate information about the education sector, which needs donors, international and local organizations concerned with development and concerned with children and their right to education to pay more attention to it.
