Every time an electoral or political event unfolds within one of Syria's opposition entities—most notably, the Syrian National Coalition—a call for reevaluation is triggered. Whether it's crises affecting refugees overseas, the plight of internally displaced individuals, or a resurgence of anti-regime activities in regions under its dominion, such as the current situation in Sweida, the discourse inevitably returns to questioning the opposition's legitimacy. This involves scrutinizing its capacity to represent the Syrian populace, negotiate on their behalf, as well as assessing its formation, structural integrity, and overall performance.

Although the opposition has been criticized for being influenced by external factors, it is, in fact, the internal dynamics that have a more profound impact on both its current state and future prospects.

This paper examines the state of identity and the reality of responsibility within the Syrian National Coalition, considered the sole legitimate representative of the Syrian people. It discusses the extent to which external factors influence the coalition, delves into the complexities of internal dynamics, and proposes some solutions for addressing them.

This paper aims to address the Syrian opposition at large, encompassing all its facets, and specifically the political dimension. It also targets those interested in or observing the state of the political opposition. The goal is to examine the issues that have led the National Coalition to its current state, in order to benefit from these insights for addressing the present situation.
